Congratulations Woodlake FFA for defeating Exeter FFA in the 2nd annual Donkey Basketball Game with a score of 8 to 7! Thank you to all that came out and supported the fun evening of healthy competition.

 

Congratulations to Reanna Munoz who was crowed  2017 Woodlake FFA Sweetheart Princess at the annual Donkey Basketball Game!

 

Congratulations to Woodlake FFA for an excellent display of leadership this weekend. Edith Guijon was elected to serve the 22,000 members of the San Joaquin Region FFA this past Saturday. Also, our FFA Scrapbook Committee Chair, Clarissa Elias and her team placed 1st in the Region Scrapbooking Competition and will move onto the State Competition in April. Congratulations again Woodlake FFA!

 

 

Congratulations Woodlake FFA Ag Cooperative Marketing Team for sweeping the Sectional competition and taking home the Champion title with Kiara Benavides as 1st, Carly Martinez as 2nd and Aaron Edwards as 3rd High Overall Individual. Our B.I.G. Team was 4th High Overall Team with Jasmine Paniagua taking home 3rd High Overall Individual.

Community Service Opportunity:

The City of Woodlake will be conducting a community clean-up day on April 22nd from 8 am to noon.  Students who are interested in earning community service hours by volunteering at this event may sign up in the front office. 

 

Underclassman if you are interested in ordering a class ring, we have Brochure’s in the office.

Mandatory Junior Class meeting next Tuesday Feb. 28th during lunch. Please sell your t-shirts and bring the money with you. We will be brainstorming ideas for invitations and décor.

 

 Attention Students in Grades 9th & 10th - The ASPIRE test is coming up very soon, but thus far only four 10th grade students have paid for this test. The ASPIRE test replaced the PLAN test but it is still the Pre-ACT test; just like the PSAT is the pre-SAT test. If you are in College Prep and/or Honors classes the high school counselors definitely encourage you to sign up and pay the $25 to Mari Villegas in the front office and bring your receipt to counseling!

 

 

JUNIORS! Now is the time to start signing up for the ACT college entrance exam scheduled at Woodlake High School on the following date.

Please pick up a Fee Waiver application form in counseling to see if you qualify for test fee waiver. You can test twice, in junior and senior year to improve your test scores. Your senior year will soon be here, so start preparing by taking this college entrance exam! Any questions come to counseling. If you are paying for your own test, make sure that you register by or before the registration deadline. If you plan on attending a CSU/UC after your graduation, you really should sign up!  Make sure that when you sign up for this test date, that you do not have another scheduled commitment.

The UC Davis – Young Scholars Program (UCD-YSP) applications for summer 2017 are now open until March 16, 2017. This summer research offers opportunities in the biological and natural sciences for 40 academically talented high school students who are currently enrolled as sophomores and juniors. Selected on the basis of a competitive application, successful applicants will reside in university dormitories from June 25 – August 5, 2017.  Participants in this program work closely with university research faculty on individual projects. All research is conducted under the supervision of UC Davis research faculty and will take place in UC Davis campus laboratories. For additional information, online application materials, nonrefundable application fee of $25, fees please go the program web site http://ysp.ucdavis.edu.  Please note substantial fee reductions are available for qualified accepted students. Application Deadline March 16, 2017.

 

Attention Seniors – Those of you that are signed up to attend GradNite all money is due no later than March 17, 2017 the total price is $145.00.

 

Students are not to come to the counseling office during class time to pick up forms (scholarship, or other misc forms), that can be done before school, after school, brunch and lunch. Counseling will gladly help you at that time.

The InFaith Community Foundation is pleased to announce the availability of the Undergraduate and Graduate scholarships through the Tulare County Lutheran Scholarship Program.  This scholarship opportunity is for seniors who are members of a Lutheran congregation, a resident of Tulare County and who will be attending a Lutheran college or university. Application Information can be found on the InFaith Community Foundation website at: infaithfound.org/scholarships.  Deadline April 30, 2017.

Did you know that the money we are raising with Pennies for Patients will help fund research?  In medicine, research means the careful study of a disease with the goal of finding a cure.  Your donations will help fund 480 researchers in 15 different countries on five continents!  Since its founding in 1949, LLS has invested more than $1billion for research specifically targeting leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.  We are proud to be a part of fund that research.  Do you part and donate now.

Friday Leadership will be at school early to collect donations in the front of the school in an event called Clean out Your Console.  Encourage your parents to drop you off at school on Friday.

 

 

Senior Scholarship – Pursuing Victory with Honor

Scholarship Criteria

Tulare County Office of Education PVWH Senior Scholarship Committee is proud to offer a $500.00 scholarship. QUALIFIED Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • 2017 Graduate of any Tulare County School
  • Possess 3.0 cumulative High School GPA
  • Exhibit exceptional sportsmanship, school and community service, and leadership
  • Plan to attend an accredited college/university as a full time student (12 units or more) during the 2017-18 academic year.

Self-Help Enterprises (SHE) is proud to announce the availability of the competitive academic scholarship from the Doris “Do” Dooley Scholarship Fund.  Applications are now available to seniors from families that have participated in SHE programs. SHE includes Multifamily Housing, New Homes, Housing Rehabilitation, Community Development and others. The student’s family must have participated in one of Self-Help Enterprises’ programs. Pick up an application in the counseling office or download one at www.selfhelpenterprises.org  under the “Get involved” tab. Deadline March 31, 2017.

 

 

Seniors: complete the College Challenge Badge for a chance to win scholarship money.

 

 

Seniors!  The 2017 Ruiz 4 Kids Scholarship application packet is now available.  Last year Ruiz 4 Kids awarded eleven (11) of our WHS seniors $1,000 each.  Minimum overall GPA 3.0 if applying to a 4-year college/university, or minimum overall GPA 2.5 if apply to community college.  So apply! The deadline for applying this year is March 10, 2017.  Also, just a heads up; please read the instructions carefully (pay attention to the RED areas that they address), if you do not follow the instructions your application will be discarded.  Seniors this information was emailed to your school email, so please check it out.    The link to the application is www.ruiz4kids.org/programs-scholarships.aspx.       

 

Seniors the Proteus’ Standard Scholarship for 2017–2018 is now available to low income applicants, whose family has been serviced by the Proteus Inc. program in the last 2 years (that would include parents or an 18 year old.) Check your email for this fillable scholarship application. Deadline April 1, 2017.

 

Seniors: The Tulare County Cattlemen’s 2017 Scholarship is now available to seniors and college students. These scholarships are based on academic achievementagricultural involvement and leadership skills. Last year many qualified applicants were awarded 10 scholarships totaling $9,500. If you meet this criteria, check your email for the application and be sure to use the current 2017 form.

 

 

1 "Aspiring Fashion Professional" Scholarship. This is a $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded to students interested in pursuing a fashion degree at an accredited post-secondary school or college.  Interested students can visit this link www.fashion-schools.org and find the scholarship located at the bottom of the page and click on it.

2. “Aspiring Animation Professional" Scholarship Program.  This scholarship is available at AnimationCareerReview.com. Seniors have the opportunity to win a $1,000 scholarship.  This will be awarded to students that are interested in pursuing an animation career path at an accredited post-secondary school or college. If you are interested this field apply at: http://www.animationcareerreview.com/ to find eligibility information along with the online application. The scholarship will be on the right side of the page and click on it.

 

3. "Aspiring Business Professional" Scholarship. This is a $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded to students that are interested in pursuing a business degree at any accredited post-secondary school or college.  Interested students can visit this link http://www.onlinembareport.com/ and find the scholarship located at the right side of the page and click on it.

The deadline for these scholarships is June 1, 2017.
